The EU economy saw a much-needed upswing in the first quarter of 2024, growing 0.3 percent compared to the last quarter of 2023. Though the expansion might seem marginal, it’s a definite improvement from the 0.1 percent contraction experienced in each of the previous two quarters.

Smaller economies such as Malta, Croatia and Cyprus experienced the highest growth, while the three largest economies (Germany, France and Italy) saw more limited bumps. In Germany, the economy expanded by just 0.2 percent, after shrinking by 0.5 percent in the last quarter of last year.
